Anti-Gravity Illusions

By Mark McConville

TRIPPY ā€œanti-gravityā€ pictures appear to show a man holding on for dear life just by his fingertips as he tries to avoid the huge drop below.

Like the Leonardo DiCaprio movie Inception taken to the next level, other mind-bending shots appear to show a man floating above a spiral staircase, reaching out for a fallen friend and intriguing patterns on the ground.

In fact, the images act as optical illusions. The man in the picture is actually lying horizontally on the ground and so, isnā€™t facing a potential fatal fall as a combination of his pose and the camera angle would suggest.

The snaps were taken in Tokyo, Japan by Japanese photographer Kaisaki, who explained how he managed to create photos that trick the eye.

ā€œA location that has a saturated line work appears when taken from an angle,ā€ he said.

ā€œIn others I am being aware of the gravity by lowering one arm and facing down.

ā€œI put full strength to one arm, imagining that it is holding all of my body weight and this created a production as if falling into a hole.ā€
